MY STORY

I've always been drawn to traditional craftsmanship and to the satisfaction that comes from creating something with my own hands. Throughout my life, I've found myself drawn to different crafts and trades, always with a desire to understand not only how something is made, but how to make it well.

My journey into hatmaking began with a genuine appreciation for the Western hat and the craftsmanship behind it. I wanted to understand the process for myself—the materials, the shaping, the blocking, and all the small details that transform a piece of felt into a hat with character and individuality.

My path into the craft was largely self-directed. Without a traditional apprenticeship to follow, I learned by studying the work of experienced craftsmen, seeking out knowledge wherever I could find it, asking questions, experimenting, and, most importantly, spending countless hours at the workbench. Each hat taught me something new, and every mistake became another opportunity to improve.

That process of learning continues to be one of the things I enjoy most about hatmaking. There is always another technique to refine, another material to understand, and another way to make the next hat better than the last.

For me, a handmade hat is more than something to wear. It is an expression of individuality and a connection to a tradition that has been part of Western culture for generations. I believe a well-made hat should feel personal to the person who wears it—something that fits properly, reflects their character, and becomes part of their story.

Whether I am creating a custom hat from a fine beaver felt, shaping a new hat to suit its owner, or restoring a well-loved hat that has seen years of use, I approach each one with the same respect for the craft.

I don't make hats by the thousands. I make them one at a time, with care and attention to the details that matter. My goal is simple: to create beautiful, well-made Western hats that are meant to be worn, enjoyed, and, perhaps one day, passed down to someone else.
